Wordpress has been a very popular format to design your website in for many years now. Originally starting off as a bloggers platform, it has slowly transformed into a usable CMS platform for more complex website designs.
Gippsland Web Design has traditionally used Joomla CMS to design websites requiring more complex page and menu layouts. Joomla traditionally has been more flexible and powerful when it came to setting up pages and menu’s, however, WordPress has, over the years, almost caught up to Joomla in it’s functionality.
WordPress has always been predominantly a blogging platform, whereby you Post blogs and they appear on one page. WordPress then introduced Pages, which made it possible to create static pages, and still have your Blog page.
Joomla on the other hand, is focussed around creating Pages as opposed to Blogs.
WordPress still has it’s limitations. For example, you cannot have more than one Blog page. You cannot split your Blog posts into different categories and post them to different Pages. With Joomla, you can create unlimited Categories for your Posts, and display each Category of Post on it’s own Page.
The only drawback with Joomla is for inexperienced users to operate the sites backend. WordPress is a lot more user friendly, and thus, it is winning the race as the most popular type of CMS for web designers to present to their clients.
Personally, as a website designer, I’d prefer to design and build a website using Joomla. But customers these days are more and more wanting to edit their own websites, so, WordPress is now becoming the tool of choice.
